How do I sign up for a 2010 CSA share and what is it?
Logistics
Four seasons of fresh produce are offered, with pick up every week on the farm on Wednesday from 10 am until 1 pm or 4 pm until 7pm. Summer CSA shareholders may choose Wednesday pick up at the farm or Friday afternoon at one of four drop site locations. Please make arrangements with a friend, relative or neighbor to pick up your share if you are not able to pick up on your day. A list of people willing to buy your share for a week will be available if there is enough interest.

You will receive approximately 8-10 different items each week. Shares will be lighter when greens and lettuce are abundant and weigh more later in the season with squashes and tomatoes. Herbs are always available on a pick your own basis. This year you may choose to receive flowers in your share or not, or you may choose to subscribe only for flowers. Examples of boxes from previous years may be viewed on the Web site.

Each week you will receive an e-newsletter letting you know the contents of your share, news of the farm, recipes, and information about some of the vegetables. The e-newsletter will be sent out the night before your pick up day.

Feel free to tell friends, relatives, and neighbors about the Cane Creek Farm CSA program. Shares generally sell out, so sign up early in the year to insure your spot. Click here to download our CSA form, which can be printed out and shared.

Worker Shares
Each year we offer a few worker shares for people who would like to exchange work for vegetables. Workers must agree to work for a full season in exchange for a season of vegetables and flowers. Workers must be available for 4 hours on either Tuesday or Friday morning every week of the season. Potential workers must be in good physical condition and able to handle strenuous exercise.

Payment
Please send full payment with your application. You may pay by check or credit card, following the instructions under the headline, "Sign Up Today!" on this page. If you need to pay by installments, the final payment must be made before the start of the season.

Shareholders are accepted on a first paid/first served basis.

Mission

At Cane Creek Farm we use methods of farming that work with nature to produce healthy food and improve the quality of the land with which we have been entrusted. No chemical pesticides or fertilizers are used on the produce. We grow food to enhance the health of the plants, community and the land. We also enjoy offering a variety of learning experiences for those interested in discovering or deepening their understanding of how to grow their own food using sustainable, chemical-free growing practices.

What Crops Can I Expect?

The spring season begins with various greens, lettuce and some root crops such as radishes and salad turnips. Summer season begins with some of the same crops and continues with strawberries, tomatoes, beans, squash and other summer favorites. Fall season will feature eggplant, peppers, okra, corn and greens toward the end of the season. Winter will be greens and root crops again.

The Harvest calendar shows the range of availability of common crops in Georgia. A list of the actual 2008 share contents can be seen here, and pictures of the 2008 shares are here. No two years are alike, but this will give you an idea of what to expect.

Each week fresh herbs will be freely available to subscribers on a pick your own basis at the farm, and you have the option of buying a share which will include a bouquet of flowers each week. Shares delivered to a drop site will contain an herb bunch each week. A newsletter will tell you what is going on at the farm, how the crops are doing and will give you a recipe for some of the produce in your share that week. Each year brings a unique pattern of sun and rain, so predicting exact harvest dates or amounts is not possible.
